Mock Drinking and Driving Crash Held at Minersville High School

SADD Club and the Miners Task Force sponsored a crash to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving. Goodwill Fire EMS of Minersville, Minersville Fire & Rescue, West Schuylkill ALS, Good Intent of Llewellyn and Life Flight 5 assisted in adding realism to the crash scene. Student volunteers portrayed crash victims as approximately 200 students from the Junior and Senior class observed. The MAHS SADD Club’s mission is to raise awareness of the importance of making positive choices, as prom and graduation are around the corner. Emergency services, along with the Schuylkill County Coroner, the Minersville Ambulance and Police Department conducted the crash to reveal the serious consequences of distractive driving to students. As part of the Mock Drinking and Driving Simulation, MAHS students were presented with information from the Schuylkill County Coroner, Mike Pothering; EMT, Mike Mistishen as well as Officer Kattner. The participating police, ambulance and fire companies were also on hand to answer any questions that students might have partaining to their jobs as first responders.
